What to know about Granada

Granada, the capital of the Nasride kingdom, is located in the foothills of Sierra Nevada and is just 30 minutes from the Mediterranean Sea. The Alhambra is its most valuable asset and rises above the Sabika Hill. It is visited by 3 000 000 people every year.

The city also has two important districts like Albaicín or Sacromonte, just behind our hotel, where you can be involved in the Moorish atmosphere. There are many beautiful gardens inside the typical Granadian houses. In the Sacromonte district, you can enjoy a flamenco show with the most famous dancers and singers of Spain.

How to arrive


By Car

Granada is linked to the main national highways:
• From Madrid (A4 and A44)
• From Sevilla and Málaga (A92)
• From Valencia (A7 and A92)
• From the Costa Tropical (Granadian beaches)(A44)

In all cases, when you get to Granada you must take the exit 128 called Centro/Méndez Nuñez.>/em> From there, you will find yellow signs with the name of our hotel. You must follow Hostal Atenas signs to reach the hotel.

Be very careful with the bus/taxi lanes as you will be fined if you pass through, even if you inform the police about your stay in our hotel.
If you have GPS it is recommended to introduce Calle Elvira 98, our parking address, located only a few metres from the hotel.




By Bus

Out from the bus station, take the bus SN1 directly to the city centre and it lasts about 10 minutes. You must get off the bus in the second stop in Gran Vía. The bus ticket cots 1.20 euros.

By Train

The train station is in the city centre. From this point you can reach the hotel:
• On foot, just 10 minutes.
• By taxi, from the station. It will cost you around 7€.
• By public transport, from the main avenue, Constitución. You have to take the bus called “LAC” and get off the bus in “Marqués de Falces” and you will find our hotel just in front. The ticket costs 1.20€.

By Airplane

Granada-Jaén airport is only 15 kilometres away from Granada and you can reach the hotel in different ways:
• By bus, 20 minutes after the arrival of every flight. You must get off the bus in Gran Vía de Colón. It will cost you 2.90€.
• By taxi, it will cost you around 30 euros.

What would you choose? Going to the beach or to the mountain?
The Alpujarra is situated between Sierra Nevada, Sierra de Lújar and Sierra de Gador There are many villages that will surprise you. Next to the Alpujarra, you will find El Valle de Lecrín, where lemon and orange trees leave a pleasant scent.

In the South of the area the Tropical Coast is located, where you can enjoy 365 days of sunshine and an average temperature of 20 degrees.

It is an essential neighbourhood to visit in Granada and was declared Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 1994. Its streets still conserve their Moorish tradition. Walking along these streets is like walking through history.

You will find typical Granadian houses with gardens called Cármenes and places where there are wonderful views from the Alhambra and the city.

If you want to taste Moorish flavours, go to the Teterías where you will taste many different types of teas, cakes and shishas.

The highest peaks of the Iberian Peninsula (Mulhacén y Veleta) are found in Sierra Nevada. For its indigenous plants and wild animals, it was declared Biosphere Reserve then, Natural Park and eventually National Park. It counts with one of the best ski resorts of Europe from December until April and a great variety in bars, restaurants and entertainment.

Catedral de Granada

Symbol of Christianity in Granada. It is the first Renaissance temple in Spain. The Catholic Kings commanded it to be built in 1501 to Diego de Siloé and Alonso Cano. Granada was also the city chosen by the Catholic Kings to build the Royal Chapel in 1506, where their remains are found.

It has a gothic style and there is only one facade exterior because the other ones are next to the Cathedral, the Market of Mercaderes and the Sanctuary.
